The Grinch, mini movie review

(This review is clearly late, considering that it's now January.  I use to review movies all the time,  and I'm debating getting back into it.  So for the next few weeks I'll be reviewing, a couple times a week, movies that came out during the Holiday season.  From there I'll gauge if this is something worth continuing, possibly launching a second blog exclusively dedicated to movie reviews.)

Rating: A-

"It's never too early to be annoyed by Christmas."

In 1957 Dr. Seuss wrote the book: How the Grinch Stole Christmas!  From this a Christmas classic was born.  A green Santa imposter who steals, just as the title says, Christmas.  He's deliciously evil.  Oh so sinister.  His Heart smaller than his other whovians.  The Grinch is sick and tired of hearing Whoville celebrations far up his mountain.  The nerve, really.

This tale has now spawned three visual versions: The 1966 animated film for television, 2000's live action theatrical release, and 2018 computer animated film simply titled The Grinch, which this review is about.

Before writing this review I looked up other audience reactions, curious to see what other have said, as I truly enjoyed this film.  Oh, the split!  Very love or hate mixed with "meh's".

I love the visual splendor.  The full delight of seeing Christmas time in Whoville.  Pretty over the top, but fun.  The story has been updated.  The Grinch softened with a back story.  Childhood wounds coming into play.  New characters added.  A twist to Cindy-Lou and her family's situation.  Her Mom is a hard worker, supporting their family, and Cindy simply wants to help her Mom.  This is the little girls quest.  Catch Santa to tell him her unselfish Christmas wish.  Meanwhile the Grinch is simply being a grinch and devises a plan to steal Christmas.  The plot jumps between these two points.

The story in The Grinch is charming.  The animation solid.  I like the new characters and the ever lovable Max, Grinch's dog.  This is a cute movie.

But most important . . . my Nieces and Nephew love this movie!!  They laughed, got into the story, didn't get all crazy wiggly, and watched the whole thing.

The Grinch is a great family movie and a fun add on to the growing list of movies to watch during Christmas time.

MPAA: Rated PG for brief rude humor.
