I love those cute little minions . . . now that I've got that out of my system . . .
Gru is not so villainous anymore. The last movie soften him a bit, and Despicable Me 2 shows how Fatherhood is treating him. Instead of popping balloons he's blowing balloons. Instead of making kids cry, he's doing everything he can to prevent tears from starting in the first place. Those three little girls have changed him. But how long can that last? With a new villain in town will Gru revert to his old ways, or remain a good guy?
Last night I re-watched the first Movie to familiarize myself with the characters again. I'd forgotten so much! But this movie, the second film, is just as cute, fun, and entertaining. Those little yellow guys are always good for a little chuckle, and there's several spots where myself and the audience joined in a good laugh. It's good ol' family fun.
Romance is also a popular subject . . . or the avoidance of it, that is. Margo is going boy crazy, she's the age for that now, much to Gru's dismay. And Lucy, Gru's new partner, is Agnes's dream of a Mother. She really wants one, after all, and what little girl wouldn't want a Mother?
Mayhem and mischief abounds! This is a fun family film that's perfect for the Summer, and a great compliment to the first movie.
MPAA: PG for rude humor and mild action.
