Exploring the Château de Valençay in France

April, 2016.  Patou took my Mom and I to the Château de Valençay.  I love exploring Castles and large historic homes, and what was so nice about this Château is that you're not trapped by a tour.  They give you an audio device, giving great information, as you learn more about this interesting place while moving room to room.

Château de Valençay was built over a long period of time, starting in 1540 and ending in the 18th century.  During this time and since this home experienced an interesting history.  Owned by many individuals, including a Scottish banker in 1719.  Napoleon had the Château acquired for foreign dignitaries.  And during WWII the Château de Valençay was spared German occupation due to the Princes of Talleyrand-Périgord being apart of the German nobility.

I loved seeing the Château de Valençay.  So many nice rooms.  Interesting basement.  Beautiful gardens.  When we left the building it was raining, which honestly made it all the more beautiful.
