Late Bloomers

Last week my Mom was mentioning how our crabapple tree never bloomed this year.  She was quite sad about it.  All the other trees have bloomed, she said.  Something must be wrong with it.  I assured her that it wasn't too late and that there was still time for it to bloom.

Sure enough, over the weekend, I looked out the window and the top of the tree was draped with vivid pink flowers.  Now the whole thing is covered, beautiful and soft.  Was the crabapple late?  Was the tree on time?  Why the need to rush a natural process?  To quickly assume that something must be wrong if we're not seeing the results we expect when we want them?

Needless to say my Mom was thrilled and relieved.  I was happy.  It's such a delightful tree in bloom.  The crabapple stuck to its own time frame.  It didn't rush.  Didn't feel bothered that its flowers didn't appear as quickly as the others.  And now, while other trees are sprouting green leaves, our crabapple is still dressed in beautiful pink.

"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all." ~ From Mulan

(Okay, maybe not quite a fitting quote for this blogs theme, but close enough, and a nice quote all the same.)
