Cat Sitting

A few weeks ago I watched the Olaf cat.  Steven and Ty were visiting with Ty's family.  So for the weekend I cat sat.  Olaf used to be our cat, but Steven and Ty needed him more, and my Dad decided he doesn't much care for cats, so away Olaf went.

I missed Olaf.  Missed his sweetness.  Olaf has a gentle, loving personality.  I don't miss when he goes into stealth mode and refuses to let anyone know where he's hiding.  That's not fun.

But it was sweet watching Olaf remember all the old things he loved doing.  A lot of little things, but it was funny watching Olaf hop up on the stair railing and try to lick his tail.  It was a feat much easily achieved when he was a kitten.  Age affects us all.

I love the Olaf cat.  I miss having pets.  But also, there's positives to not having a pet as well.  I'm good either way, to be honest.  But it was really nice having him around.

Have a nice day,
Sarah

Because Seeing Wet Cats Make Me Smile . . .

Here's a video to add a little smile to your upcoming weekend.

"Cat's That Love Baths" by GreaterGoodNetwork

And now I really want to see what The Olaf Cat looks like wet.  He goes to the pet groomer once a month, so I've never seen him smothered in water, but suddenly I secretly want to see if I could get him to take a bath.  Would he hate me forever?  Do I dare try!!??  Heh, happy thoughts.

The Olaf Cat Tries to Smile

These first three pictures my brother Steven took and later shared with me.  I thought this was too precious not to share!  The Olaf Cat trying to smile, at least we think that's what he was trying to accomplish.

During a bout of cleaning Olaf was hanging out next to the trash.

Olaf begins to turn towards to the camera.

And he smiles!!

Of course you may not think so, but look at the right side of his mouth, our left, slightly rising.  Honestly, I've personally never seen him make this sort of expression, so I think it's legit.  He was smiling for the camera.

A few days later I found The Olaf Cat chillaxing on the only table he's aloud to be on.  It's one of his new favorite places to hang out.

The Christmas Tree = The Olaf Cat's Nemeses

"Why does being good have to feel so bad?" The Olaf Cat asked as he lay below the Christmas tree, the dazzling lights and dangling play things beckoning him to misbehave.

This morning he had already been scolded for knocking three ornaments off the tree, only this time he choose not to climb, which would have landed him in laundry room prison.  Punishment averted!  If only he could learn to climb without shaking the tree, giving him away.  Super stealth mode! That's what he needed. Olaf lay scheming a clever plot, but before any grand escapade could be decided, he was distracted once again and pawed a branch.

"Olaf," a stern voice warned.

Olaf quickly sprawled on the floor.  "This will fool them," he thought, a posture of unassuming obedience.  "But as soon as they leave the room I'll finally do it!  I'll climb to the top of the tree and reach that Angel.  She won't even see me coming."  He sat there as he watched the humans busying themselves about.  "If only I could do so without making the tree move," he sighed, laying his head down for a cat nap.

"Less then two weeks till Christmas.  All this madness will finally come to an end."

The Olaf Cat Goes on a Walk

Well, heh, it was more of a kitty adventure exploring the outdoors.

Olaf is an indoor cat, so he doesn't get out much.

But did you know you can train a cat to go on walks on a leash?  Crazy, but it's a process teaching them, which we're not quite sure of, and it's good to start them young.

So the goal is to put Olaf on a leash a few times a week to get him used to it, and hopefully by Spring we can take him on walks around the park and elsewhere.

For now he's enjoying exploring the outdoors.

An Olaf Cat!

(My brother holding Olaf at the Petco adoption center.)

I was going to write a really thoughtful blog post on why I'm not serving a mission, and what I learned in the process, but then this happened!

A Cat!  Technically a kitten, was adopted by my family and brought home.

He came pre-named Olaf.  A couple kids named him this at a shelter.  Though Olaf is young enough to be renamed, we decided to keep it because, you know, Olaf likes warm hugs, and that's adorable.

He's a Lynx Point, which is a combination of a Tabby and Siamese.  So far he's really tame and loves to be held, purring instantly, which is a good sign.  We'll see as he gets older!  I've found that the personality a cat has at an adoption place isn't always the personality they maintain, though I hope he maintains his calm nature!  That would be nice.  So far he's friendly and playful.

This will be fun :0)

(Heh, and I hope the furniture lasts . . .)

Be More Dog

Why be a cat when you can Be More Dog?

They have more fun, do they not?  More excitement.  More joy.  More energy.

Cat's, on the other hand, can be listless and picky.  Prone to revenge and malice.  Selective and Calculating.  Selfish.

That's the opinion of this commercial from O2, encouraging us to be dog-like in optimism and purpose.  I saw it at a leadership meeting a couple weeks back, and the whole 600+room had a good laugh over it.

It's true, really, we could all be a little more dog.

Though I like dogs, I will always prefer cats.  They're independent and don't need to be cuddled.  They come when they want to, then leave for solace.  And I like they're attitude.

Monopoly's New Cat: I Blame All Those Cat Memes

This past week Hasbro made a huge announcement!  A new cat token will be replacing the iron.  There were two worldwide competition: One, to save a token piece, Second, to add a new token piece.  The Scottish Dog won the popular vote, while the iron lucked out.  I guess we're to assume Monopoly players are huge animal lovers.

The cat was against four other possible tokens.  Personally, I wish the robot won.  It has a cool vintage sci-fi vibe.  I must admit, I'm a cat person, and the cat really is cute.  (Darn, all those cat memes my brother Steven obsesses over are getting to me) Though I hope the dog token is bigger then the cat, because if the cat is bigger, that will look weird.

I've already collected a few versions of the game, and in so doing I have quite a few tokens.  What's sad is I don't have an iron . . . I may have to pick another game up just to get the vintage pieces for nostalgia's sake.  The new game piece will become available at the end of Summer when Monopoly is re-released, sans iron.

I have to throw this out there.  I don't know how many people have played the new, credit card version of the game.  At first I thought it was a travesty.  You can't play Monopoly without paper money!!!  But it's honestly really fun, and speeds up game play quite a bit.  And the money values are the same as the monopoly's "Here & Now" version.  So if I want to play the credit card version with paper money, I just barrow it from the Here & Now version, and I can play the Here & Now version with credit-cards.

And there's a card game that's actually quite fun with even quicker game play.  How many more versions of this game am I going to buy? -_-;;

The Love of Cats

"Authors like cats because they are such
quiet, lovable, wise creatures,
and cats like authors for the same reasons."

~ Robertson Davies
