Too Early to be Thinking About Christmas!!!

It's that time of year again, when we're reminded that the onslaught of end of year festivities is just around the corner.  First it starts with Halloween, with orange and black ghouls all over the place, which have started to appear just this last week.  Halloween is more then 2 months away!  And I'm not quite finished with Summer.

Any-who, I'm still reeling from the fact that this year is passing so quickly.  Seriously, is time speeding up? Because it's crazy.

And then, after noticing the Fall/Halloween items at Hobby Lobby, I find, around the corner, full on Christmas displays!

Oy, vey!

As much as I love Christmas, I'm just not ready for it!

(Though, yes, I know we're supposed to keep Christmas in our hearts, always.)

But still, Not. Ready. At. All.

I still want to enjoy Autumn in peace . . . the lull before the snow storms.

Though, as a side note, those nutcrackers are pretty cute.

My Brother Professes His Love to His Beautiful Fiancé

A few months ago my brother proposed to the woman he loves, Lindsay, my future sister-in-law.  They're so cute together, and balance each other well.  And I'm excited for them both.

Robbie made this video for Lindsay to show at her bridal shower, and it's adorable.  It shows Robbie's personality, and why he's such a great guy.  "One of the good guys," as my Grandpa A used to say.  Linsday is very lucky to have my brother as her future husband.  And Robbie is lucky to have her as well.

Below are some of the photos my parents and I took for their engagement.

Only the beginning.

The Mispronunciation of Angeline

My Middle name is Angeline.

It's been handed down by generations.  I'm the fifth.  It's a tradition that the eldest daughter in this maternal line is given the middle name Angeline.

And we pronounce it AngeLINE, as in eye, time, line, fine, etc.  In the same way you end Madeline, Caroline, Adaline, etc.

It's such a special name to me that I got my middle name on my class ring instead of my first.

And I collect items, particularly antiques and collectibles, that bear the name Angeline.  I don't have that many, but some special pieces, like this antique book: Angeline of the Hill Country, printed in 1925.

And this old bottle of Dr. J Kauffman's Angeline internal rheumatism cure, from Hamilton Ohio.  In the bottle are shells I collected while visiting Moonstone Beach, Cambria, back when I was growing up.

I was excited when I bought the new Lifehouse album "Out of the Wasteland."  I got the CD at Target with 4 bonus tracks.  Tract #15 is titled ANGELINE.  When I got home and noticed the name of this tract I was hoping the pronunciation matched that of how my family pronounces the name.

typically the line in Angeline seems to be pronounced as lean, not line.

In both my High School and College graduation the speaker announced me as Sarah AngeLEAN Stufflebeam, which rhymes -_-;;, instead of Sarah AngeLINE.  It's happened on a few occasions.

So a couple nights ago I'm listening to the song and start think they might go with my pronunciation, because the words Time and Mine are found in the chorus.  My mind sings AngeLINE at the end of the verse.  But it wasn't until I got the lyric book and saw that Angeline was being rhymed by Everything.

So close!!

The website Behind the Name says Angeline is of French origin and pronounced "awn-zhə-LEEN" with no other pronunciation offerings.

So maybe we have been saying it wrong this whole time.  As in for the last 142 years.

But regardless, I like the tradition my family has.  And our pronunciation is beautiful.  It feels like a name lost in time.  Angeline.

My second great-grandmother, (Wilma) Angeline Dee, born March 27, 1873 in Poweshiek County, Iowa.  The first in my family to bear the name.

And her Mother, my third great-grandma:

Emeline Scott, born December 23, 1838 in Saint-John, New Brunswick, Canada.  I have to think she said her name EmeLINE.  Maybe that's how the tradition got started?  She transferred how she ends her name to that of Angeline?

When I was working on my genealogy I was hoping to find a pattern of Angeline going further back, but my line dead-ends with Emeline's father Thomas Scott (1813 in New Brunswick) who married Anna Floyd (October 28, 1814 in Nova Scotia, Canada).  My line with Anna Floyd dead-ends with her.  I don't know if the lines go back directly to the British Isles, or detours back into America.  (It was common for Loyalists of the British Empire during the American Revolution to flee into Canada, particularly New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.  Since my line dead-ends in the early 1800's I just don't know, but there's that possibility now.  Goodness, I don't want loyalist blood!!!!!  Ancestors, I forgive you if that's the case.  But dang!!  Thankfully I have a few ancestors who fought on the American side of the Revolution.  And all the ancestors I've found who fought in the Civil War were on the Union side.)  Heh, sorry for this last tangent.  I'm quite passionate over this topic.

With that all said.  I love my name.  And if I'm fortunate enough to get married and have a daughter I hope to name her Sophia Angeline.

(As a note, Emeline spells her name the French way, and not the English way, Emmeline.  I've hoped for the longest time that I have French ancestry.  I wonder if this is a clue that I might.  Emeline and Angeline both being French spellings.)

(Second note: I'm totally obsessing over the new Lifehouse album Out of the Wasteland.  It's fantastic.)

(Third note: Not to worry all of you, but I'm dead.  I found my gravestone.)

Giant Box for a Small Item, Disney Store

This is my amusement for the week.  (It's good to find amusements; they make life a little more worth while.)

A little bit ago my Mom bought my two nieces a Tinker Bell and Fawn costume.  The Disney Store has the wings for Tink, but not Fawn, and they have a deal that if they order the item from the online Disney Store site, sent to your house, you get free shipping.  Pretty sweet.  So she ordered the wings.

When the package arrived it was ginormous!!!

And as the box was opened it was, sure enough, nothing but a thin pair of wings and air bags.

My family and I had a good laugh over it.

It is nice that the Disney Store takes great care that the item you buy arrives in perfect condition.

What if Elders Quorum and Relief Society Switched?

This video is a couple years old, made by the LA YSA (Los Angeles Young Single Adults LDS Ward).  They're totally playing off the RS and EQ (Relief Society and Elders Quorum, the third hour meeting on Sundays held in Mormon Wards and Branches, following Sacrament and Sunday School) stereo types.  The woman are typically thought of as overachievers, giving snacks, handouts, and creating well crafted table displays, etc.  The men are seen as laid back and unorganized.

Stereo types, naturally, to the extremes, but we Latter-Day Saints have no problem poking fun at ourselves.  And I find this role reversal skit pretty funny.

Honestly I've never been to a full Elders Quorum meeting.  The only bit I've seen are the opening announcements, when I was the ward chorister "begging" for more male voices.  They were pretty organized.  Though, in terms of RS, I have no complaints whenever the teacher brings cookies and handouts.  They're always welcomed. :0)

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Mini Movie Review

Movie Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Wow, wow, wow.

I LOVE Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, the 5th Mission Impossible movie in the series.  My family loves it.  I've seen it twice and can easily see it again.  My Grandfather has seen it three times and is ready to see it a forth, which he requested yesterday.

Ethan Hunt, played by , is an IMF agent trying to prove the Syndicate's existence, an expert shadow terrorist organization.  Ethan is close, but is quickly foiled when Europe is compromised and he's captured.  I know this isn't a thorough plot teaser, but the less you know, the better your movie viewing experience will be.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation is a beautiful balance between crescendo and diminuendo.  Humor and tenseness.  Build up and release.  The opening sequence is just brilliant.  I'm laughing and enjoying, freaked out at the suspense, and wondering, "This is how you start a movie?!  Throw in a fantastic action sequence at the get go?  How do you follow up?"  But follow up they do.  Each moment of suspense unique to its situation.

Really, this is a well balanced movie with tight plot and great cast.  , , , and all have great chemistry together.  New to the series as Ilsa Faust is a great addition.  She's such a strong, interesting character, and easily Ethan's match in every way.

This is the great Summer flick I've been waiting for.  My favorite movie of the year.

When is Mission Impossible 6 coming out?  I'm ready.

Rated PG-13 for sequences of action and violence, and brief partial nudity.

BYU Shot Glass

For the 18th year in a row BYU, aka Brigham Young University in Provo UT, won the No. 1 stone cold sober school award by the Princeton Review.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered a BYU shot glass sitting next to a coffee mug.  I found them at a Walmart in Utah Valley this morning.

More like Imagine my amusement.
